Bobby's Commit for Life Story

Bobby became passionate about increasing the number of blood donations from African-Americans when his daughter, Marva Jean, was diagnosed with sickle cell disease and began needing regular blood transfusions. Because sickle cell patients often require closely matched blood that is most likely to come from donors of the same ethnicity, Bobby encourages more African-Americans to Commit for Life.

The Power of Life Creative Scholarship

Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center's The Power of Life scholarship program will award each of 22 high school students a $1,000 college scholarship! High school seniors at schools hosting at least two drives this school year may submit blogs, essays, videos, songs and more meant to inspire individuals to Commit for Life. Click here to learn more and submit your most creative piece before the March 19 deadline!

Did You Know?
